My Profile

Emp

Profile

I graduated in Philosophy of Religion at the Dept. of Philosophy, University of Trieste (Italy), with a thesis focused on the development of the concepts of “void” (suñña/śūnya) and “voidness” (suññatā/śūnyatā) from Pāli canonical Buddhism up to Nāgārjuna. I accomplished my PhD in Trieste and in Paris, at the INALCO (Institut National pour l’Apprentissage des Langues et Civilization Orientales). The subject of my thesis concerned the concepts of “truth” (sacca/satya) and “two truths” (dve satye) in Nāgārjuna and their theoretical presuppositions in the Pāli Canon. Meanwhile, I taught Philosophy and Religions of India at the ISFIY (Higher Institute for the Training of Yoga Teachers), branch of Trieste. In 2008 I was appointed Cultore della Materia (Instructor) in Philosophy of Religion at the Faculty of Scienze della Formazione, University of Trieste. At present I collaborate with the teaching of Theoretical Philosophy, Dept. of Humanities, University of Trieste. During the years 2010-2011 I was in charge of teaching Indian Pedagogics at the Master Yogaeducational (ISFY, Trieste).

Basically interested in theoretical problems, after having studied Continental Philosophy (ancient, mediaeval, modern, contemporary, according to both a historical and a theoretical approach) I turned my attention to Indian Philosophy – in particular early Buddhism, Nāgārjuna’s and Bhāviveka’s Madhyamaka thought –, which I investigate from Pāli, Sanskrit and Tibetan sources. Since 2009 I am devoting part of my research work also to the study of Indian materialism (Cārvāka/Lokāyata) from Sanskrit and Tibetan texts. Occasionally I deal with subjects related to philosophical and cultural comparisons between East and West.
